Fakt.

View of fall colors from South Fork Park, Provo Canyon.

Citi jako podzim. Fakt.

It feels like fall. Truly.

Fall is finally here, and I guess I'm ok with it. I was reluctant to say goodbye to summer, but since returning from my trip to Utah, I'm ready for it all--the crisp air, the vibrant colors of the leaves, pumpkins, squash, Halloween, the smell of burning brush fires in the backyard. All of it.

As I've mentioned many times before, as the seasons change, so do my musical selections. Fall equals acoustic awesomeness, and other soul-searching sounds. Bloc Party has recently come out with a new album. I have to admit that I don't care for most of it, but their ballads are once again spot on. And Kele...his voice slays me. Please enjoy this gem of a song called Truth.

Citi jako podzim...

It truly feels like fall in Seattle. The temperatures have dropped, there's a delicious crispness in the air, and the leaves are starting to turn. And the rain has returned. But what is Seattle without rain, really?

Autumn has always been my favorite season. Always. Ask anyone. I loved experiencing a true East Coast fall last year, and the gorgeous falls in the Czech Republic. There's something utterly romantic about tree lined paths with leaves all around. Love.

Anyways, I've heard this song a few times before, but I feel like it captures the season (which apparently the artist does not agree).

Please enjoy!

"You are my sunshine..."

Color. Whimsy. Excellent message. James McAvoy. Penelope has it all.

What are my favorite scenes, you ask? I really do have several, but my top three are:
1. When Penelope tries to discover Max's instrument.
2. When she finally leaves her house and happens upon a fair. I LOVE the bubbles.
3. The epic kiss at the end. Greatness.

About this time every year I have an urge to watch this wonderful film. Maybe it's because it's set in the fall. Maybe because it features Sigur Ros, which is one of the bands I love listening to at this time. Wait. I know that's why.

Autumn is my favorite.

I love stomping through piles of crunchy leaves, bon fires, sweaters and layers, and the smell of all the goodness. Apple orchards, and pumpkins and corn mazes. I'm getting SO excited for all the possibilities.

Here's to great films, and the best season of them all--AUTUMN!

Not Quite Winter--Definitely Fall

So I've been a bit MIA of late. It's been a combination of being crazy busy, some serious bloggers block, and  interference by some Asian Dramas. Many a friend have commented on my lack of writing and I will repent.

Just not with this post.

Fall has hit DC with full force. Literally. We've had some pretty gusty weather lately dumping tree-loads of leaves all over the place. I'm in heaven! The air is crisp. I get to wear sweaters and scarves. Delicious.

So, you know how I'm slightly obsessed with music, right? And how basically every post on here lately has had a music video? Well, this post isn't going to be any different (but I'm repenting, remember? I'll do a different post a little later). Anyhow, as the seasons change, so does the type of music I listen to.

Fall = Acoustic Awesomeness

And Bon Iver is one of my all time favorites. Thanks to my good friend Sarah and her most excellent taste in music, I was exposed to Bon Iver and all of Justin Vernon's sweet goodness. Loved the name of his project, his sound, his voice. Perfect for fall.

Have a listen, and enjoy!

Jumpin' Puddles...

I love autumn.
I love the crisp cool air
the bright (sometimes) blue skies
the crunch of fallen leaves.

I love wearing bright colored scarves and have the wind blow through my hair as I ride my bike at high speeds down sidewalks.

Autumn is also the time when my musical tastes change. The chill, acoustic, more alternative tunes of my collection are played more frequently.

Fall is also the time for one of my favorite bands--Sigur Ros.  This could be because the first time I ever listened to Sigur Ros was in the fall. My friend Patrick's older brother introduced me to their untitled album, and was especially keen on me listening to Untitled #8. It's quite grand, and you should definitely check it out here.

A few months later, Patrick showed me this music film done by Sigur Ros called Heima. Basically one summer, the band went home to Iceland and performed a series of intimate shows in out of the place locations--free concerts for the people. The music is beautiful, the filming is beautiful, the scenery is absolutely beautiful. After watching this film, I fell in love in Iceland.

One of my favorite Sigur Ros songs is Hoppipolla, or in English, Jumpin' Puddles. I find that the lyrics are particularly meaningful at this time of year, especially with all the rain we've received as of late.

Happy Weekend!
(English translation after the clip)

smiling

spinning in circles
holding hands
the world is a blur
except when you're standing

dripping wet
completly soaked
no rubberboots
running inside of us
wants to burst out of the shell

wind in
and the smell of your hair
i hit as hard as i can
with my nose
jumping into a puddle
wearing no boots
completely soaked (dripping wet)
wearing no boots

and i get a nosebleed
but i'll always stand up again
(hopelandic)

and i get a nosebleed
but i'll always stand up again

Blogger's block, and I mean hard core...

So it's almost been two weeks since I last blogged, and it hasn't been because I didn't want to. I've been having some major blogger block. I can't think of anything to write, even though I probably have a ton to write about. Well, now that I think about it, I have two whole trips to write about, yet I have no desire to write about them quite yet.

Maybe it's because I have a lot on my mind? Could that contribute to writer's block? I would think otherwise, but who knows? Life's funny. As soon as I make a decision with what I'm going to do with my life a wrench seems to get thrown into the mix, and things completely change. This is a good thing, despite the fact that my stress levels seem to rise every time it does happen. Plus it keeps me from making the wrong decision.

Halloween is quickly approaching, yet it doesn't really feel like it. Come to think of it, it still doesn't even feel like fall. The average temperature is still about 85 degrees with 70% humidity. I wake up every morning hopeful that it will be cool enough for me to wear a cardigan. And "cool enough" would be anywhere below 80. You might think I'm ridiculous, but here's the thing--I'm a lover of layers. I think it has to do with my being from Seattle.

Everyday in Seattle is cool enough for layering, as my mom would attest. I never minded probably because I didn't really know any better. Fall was always the best because I could wear my favorite V-neck sweater and sandals at the same time.  At least that's how it was in high school.

Fall has always been my favorite season, and those crisp cool autumn mornings were the best. I remember going on walks up the Tolt River Pipe Line right by my house  (it was always up, in both directions) and admiring the hills of lush evergreens interspersed with jolts of orange and yellow deciduous trees. The best days were those when the sky was a piercing blue, which made the colors of the trees pop.  My favorite tree (and I did have quite a few) was at the top of our hill and it would turn into a flame of orange. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

I miss the fall colors. I miss the cool crisp fall mornings. I miss wearing scarves. And I kinda miss wearing cute shoes.

Taiwan has forced me to shed my layers and learn how to actually dress for summer weather. If it really felt like fall here, I wouldn't/couldn't go to the beach and still get a tan. You win some, you lose some, eh?

On another note, teaching is going really well. I really love my kids. My fifth graders are in the process of making pinatas, and I'm in the process of persuading them that they should let some of the other classes break them open. They are still wanting to keep all three of the pinatas, but we'll see who wins. Muahahaha.... I mean, I am the one providing the candy.

The school is doing a big to do about Halloween this year complete with a haunted house. It should be wicked fun. No clue what I'm going to be, but it will be interesting.

Here's to fall, Halloween, and to writing despite blogger's block!
